In this work, AI has been used to address some of the gaps and this image presents a figurine of William ‘Box’ Brown. Brown escaped slavery in Virginia by having himself mailed to abolitionists in the north. After surviving 27 hours in a box less than a metre wide, he reached freedom and went on to campaign against slavery in Britain in the 1850s.
